@PrideOfTheTide @AP_Top25 According to my records, Alabama has dropped 2 or more spots after being idle three other times before yesterday:

9/5/89 Week 1 / #16 > #19 (-3)
9/18/72 Week 2 / #5 > #7 (-2)
9/19/66 Week 1 / #1 > #3 (-2)

There were 12 instances where they just dropped 1 spot from 1937 to 2014.

One of the problems with this argument is that the media/fans also have issues with the CFP rankings even as late as they come out. Plus you'll never completely rid any rankings of blue blood bias regardless of who publishes them.
