Machines are tools, not persons. Today, some propose granting these systems rights, or even legal personhood. Such an approach risks obscuring human responsibility and leaving those who suffer harm to confront a faceless entity.
The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty
"She was going to a frat house, she knew what she was going to get."
Oh yeah?
If that's what frat houses are for, close them all entirely, immediately.
Right as Laura Rutledge explains Donald Trump's presence leading to communication issues for Texas and Tennessee, the ABC audio becomes a mess.
Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit try to deliver the play-by-play in a painful listen for ABC viewers. 🏈🎙️😵💫
The Church does not exist for herself, but to lead every person to an encounter with the Lord. It is therefore not enough to ask whether an activity is well organized, well attended, or has been running for many years. We must ask whether it truly leads people to Christ and brings the Gospel into contact with the concrete realities of people’s lives.
Leaders of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops met with top tech firms and other experts in artificial intelligence to discuss “catastrophic, existential risk” potentially posed by the new technology. https://t.co/PkdEMhqL72
Video shows Flock walking police through how to monitor a No Kings protest in real time. I do not have to agree with a single sign at that protest to say this plainly: Surveillance aimed at your political opponents today will be aimed at you tomorrow.
Anthropic Is building a surveillance system to monitor activists using a “pre-crime” approach that tries to predict incidents before they happen.
The extensive monitoring system that the AI company is building is aimed primarily at keeping tabs on activists who oppose the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

"The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade."
That blunt admission from former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon made waves Tuesday, as the just-quit 27-year-old AI researcher spilled the beans on his way out the door in a resignation thread on X. https://t.co/Tviou3uNQ1
The world does not need an artificial intelligence that diminishes humanity; rather, it needs human intelligence enlightened by wisdom, political authority guided by conscience and technological innovation directed by charity. Only then will artificial intelligence become not a rival to humanity but a servant of the common good.
I’m done trying to be polite or tiptoe around peoples feelings when it comes to generative AI. Your stuff looks like shit. Your logo looks like shit. Your flyer looks like shit. Your photo edits look like shit. It’s so obvious that it’s AI, and it all looks like garbage.
