@Heshim23@EricSal_7@Kazeem I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the Spurs from 2012-2017 for some reason haha. Not sure if it was just my age or something but I have way too many random facts from that period stuck in my head my head
Actually the OKC offense was number 1 in the playoffs even without JDub. Spurs defense is the reason it’s “6 points worse” than the Knicks.
“What about Ajay Mitchell?” Yeah Spurs locked him down when he was playing too lol
Spurs faced a OKC offense without two core rotation players that was still 6 points worse than the Knicks, not enough conversation about San Antonio being untested against an offense like New York's.
In their 2 regular season matchups (data missing cup finals) the Spurs and Knicks actually stifled each other in the halfcourt.
Per 100 hc plays
Spurs 90 pts
Knicks 92 pts
Those games were won or lost on putbacks and transition. Have a hunch that will be true this series too
Back on 12/16, 12/31, 3/1: Dylan Harper was a good reliable rookie who had some flashes.
Since the start of the playoffs he has been *at worst* the 4th best player on a contender and someone who I’m not hearing much about in the matchup breakdowns.
Thunder were 6-0 in the playoffs with no JDub before the WCF. Ajay Mitchell looked bad against the Spurs BEFORE he was injured.
They were still the reigning champs who had a 2x MVP, a runner up DPOY and All-NBA player, and home court advantage
@spursstatsvideo Hello Mr. Stats and Video I have a question I’m afraid to ask out loud but I’m doing it anyway:
One of the biggest changes in the post season is that Knicks players have like a 108% eFG% on potential assists from KAT
How much do you think that is variance and how much is “real”
In particular, the Spurs transition defense was HORRIBLE against the Knicks. When accounting for efficiency and frequency, the Spurs had the worst transition defense of any Knick opponent this season.
Wembanyama against the Knicks this season (incl Cup Finals)
eFG% on 3’s and shots at the rim: 65.6%
eFG% on non-rim 2’s: 34.2%
Big battleground when Spurs have the ball is finding ways to get Wemby the ball deep in the paint.
Spurs had a *bad* offensive series against OKC, especially in the halfcourt.
They won that series 100% on the defensive ends.
Knicks have a TON of weapons and places to go to poke at that defense.
That side of the ball is the one I’m most excited to watch
This Spurs defense is extraordinary. Better than the Thunder. Wemby is obviously the critical piece but the random switching (to keep Wemby parked on backline) and the rotations are elite.
@ThrowSumDsOnIt8 100%. Will be interesting to see how they guard Towns. I think the two star centers are THE story. Everything on both ends flows from them
Digging in to more Knicks tape to see what they have been doing so well in these playoffs. And they have been playing just fantastic for a month now.
But one point of relief the Spurs can bring into the series is that they do not employ James Harden
Chris Paul credits the Spurs’ work ethic:
“The coolest thing about seeing the Spurs right now, is the people. If we had practice at 10 or 11 AM, the people that was on the court with us at 8 AM every single day. Them people grinding. That’s why you see Wemby the way he is & all those guys on the team.”
