This week in Washington, D.C., I joined law enforcement leaders, federal partners, policymakers, and overdose prevention advocates at the @MidwestHIDTA Board Meeting to advance efforts against drug trafficking and overdose deaths.
Proud to represent @NEStatePatrol with all our Nebraska and regional partners! @FBIOmaha@DEAOmahaDiv@USAO_NE@ONDCP@SaraCarterDC 🇺🇸
I am so proud to reveal the @NEStatePatrol America 250 commemorative challenge coin, honoring our nation’s 250th Anniversary and reflecting the values that guide our mission each day, Pro Bono Publico.
This coin proudly features Nebraska’s @America250 logo with the red and blue Nebraska State Patrol logo.
This keepsake honors both our nation’s milestone and the service of those who continue to proudly protect and serve Nebraska. 🇺🇸
I was glad to honor these Troopers after they busted 500 pounds of dangerous drugs off our streets.
And they were helped by K9 Gable, who is a very good boy.
June 2, 2024; #Day1@lavistapolice@CityofLaVista for Chief Schofield. Join me in congratulating him on his 2yr @workiversary. He previously served @kcpolice for 32 yrs, retiring at the rank of Major.
He brings a wealth of experience & a forward thinking vision of policing.
Please join us in congratulating Major Andy Ecklund, who now serves at Commander of Eastern Operations!
Major Ecklund was promoted this spring and takes over for Major Jeff Wilncyski, who retired last week. Major Ecklund most recently served as NSP Director of Training.
Heads up for travelers in western Nebraska.
I-80 is currently closed between Ogallala and Big Springs because of a crash. That’s mile marker 126-107 in both directions.
Thankful for the service, dedication, commitment, leadership, and friendship of Major Wilcynski! It was a pleasure to witness this moment with his family and many current and former members of our team. Enjoy “retirement” and continued success with whatever comes next! 💪🏻🇺🇸
A career of over 30 years as a Trooper! Help us congratulate Major Jeff Wilcynski #285 on his retirement!
Between Major Wilcynski, his dad, and his grandpa, this family has been a part of the Nebraska State Patrol since 1950! #LifeOfService#FamilyOfService
Congrats, 285!
Police responded this evening to a report of shots fired in the Tara Plaza area of Papillion. After leaving the area, the suspect was located by officers and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended in the Home Depot parking lot near 84th Street and Cornhusker Road.
During the incident, officers were fired upon and returned fire. The suspect sustained critical injuries and was transported to the nearest trauma center for treatment.
No officers were injured, and the situation has been contained. There is currently no ongoing threat to the public.
Officers from the Papillion Police Department, La Vista Police Department, and the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office were involved in the incident.
The investigation is being conducted by the Sarpy County Force Investigation Team and will continue throughout the evening. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
In March, I traveled to Ogallala with Governor @TeamPillen & several State & Federal leaders to assess wildfire impacts across western Nebraska. During the trip, I had the opportunity to fly with the @NEarmyguard to observe the fires from the air. It was a windy day, so I left my campaign hat safely inside the FBO.
When we returned, a sharp @IowaNatGuard member was waiting with my hat in hand and said, “Colonel, I made sure to secure your hat.” He said he was also an @iowastatepatrol Trooper. I never caught his name, but I genuinely appreciated the gesture. If you’re a trooper, you understand what that meant. I later made sure to share the story with my friend, ISP Colonel Fulk.
Today, while assisting ISP with a promotion process in Des Moines, Colonel Fulk surprised me with the chance to meet this outstanding Trooper. Trooper Miller presented me with an Iowa State Patrol campaign hat!
I can’t fully explain how meaningful that moment was, and more importantly, how grateful I was for the opportunity to thank him for his service to Nebraska. I learned he flew over 40 hours fighting wildfires alongside our Nebraska Soldiers.
I truly appreciate the partnership with Colonel Fulk and the ISP. Moments like this are reminders of how special our profession is and how shared experiences can leave lasting impacts.
Thank you, Trooper Miller. I’ll be sure to repay the gesture soon. 🇺🇸
On behalf of myself and the entire @NEStatePatrol Congratulations @OmahaPolice Deputy Chief Gray on this appointment to lead the Nebraska Crime Commission.
Scott’s years of service, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to public safety have earned the respect of law enforcement professionals across our state. I look forward to continuing our partnership as we work together to strengthen public safety and serve the people of Nebraska.
Best wishes and continued success in this incredibly important role. 🇺🇸
The Nebraska Crime Commission plays a critical role in our efforts to keep Nebraska a safe place to raise a family and build businesses as we work hard to support law enforcement officers across our state.
Today, I announced my appointment of Scott Gray as executive director of the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. Deputy Chief Gray has led a decorated 30-year career with the Omaha Police Department, and has recently earned OPD’s Distinguished Service Medal.
He brings decades of law enforcement experience and leadership to the Crime Commission — and he is a dedicated public servant who understands first-hand the impact of the Commission’s functions and programs and will ensure they continue to be administered for the benefit of Nebraska’s citizens.
Nebraska’s law enforcement officers do heroic work to keep us safe — and I know Deputy Chief Gray will carry on that tradition.

Outstanding work, a seizure of 525 pounds of cocaine will have a significant impact on safety across our state and country.
This is what vigilance, training, commitment, and partnership looks like. Great work to our PSD Team! @NSP_DogDivision
Amazing work today by Troopers and K9 Gable, who sniffed out 525 pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop on I-80. The nose knows.

Thanks to @DEAOmahaDiv for the assist in this investigation.
Sparks were flying on I-80 last night during a low speed pursuit with a stolen U-Haul. The driver refused to stop after losing tires, causing sparks and even small fires in the median. Thanks to the @kearneyVFD for their quick work.
Teamwork from @KearneyPolice@BuffaloCountySO and @NSP_TroopC.

Today, and always, we honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in defense of our nation. Their courage and selfless service secured freedoms we must never take for granted.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
Congratulations to our civil bureau chief, Jen Huxoll, who was named today as the next district court judge in Lancaster County by @TeamPillen.
An outstanding choice! She will be missed at AGO but will do an incredible job on the bench.
