One piece of evidence: The Names

These are real names with real structure and meaning that match ancient Hebrew and Egyptian patterns. Many of which were thought to be made up in the 1830's.

Alma
Critics mocked it as a made up feminine Hispanic name.

But “Alma” has since been found as an ancient Semitic male name meaning “young man” or “youth.”

And, Alma the Younger is introduced by Mormon as a rebellious YOUNG MAN.

The name fits both the language and the narrative role.

Sariah
A proper Hebrew feminine name that fits known naming patterns from the ancient Near East.

Nephi
A name consistent with Egyptian naming traditions, tied to meanings involving leadership and status.

Throughout the Book of Mormon, the names:

• Follow Semitic language structures
• Carry meanings tied to roles in the story
• Reflect a blend of Hebrew and Egyptian influence
• Stay consistent across generations

These are things an uneducated 23 year old farm boy in the 1820s with no knowledge of these languages could have known.

Many of these linguistic patterns and name meanings were not understood by scholars until many decades after Joseph’s time.

Either Joseph:

1. Accidentally created dozens of accurate ancient names with correct meanings that match their narrative roles.

He was a prophet of God translating a real ancient record.
