I'm putting way too much time in a South Park inspired hub world to play my educational games as if you were actually attending school. I don't know why I am making this. https://t.co/obciwNSgEe
@bestofStarTrek Whan I was young and dumb it was Picard, now it's Kirk all the way.
Play Starward, my homage to Star Trek TNG and FTL. https://t.co/rem6xO79Lp
@mathillustrated Not if you like math. Teaching the standard algorithm and excelling at it is basically puzzle solving. Do it right and the kids are satisfied by their progress and enjoy the process of learning it.
@mathillustrated I'm sorry, I was using 'we' colloquially. I taught in a Charter school and we used old Strayer-Uptons and out of print Saxons. It was pretty awesome. This new math is basically brain poison.
I'm not sure those questions are clear choices. I think you should hit standard algorithm hard. I think you should jump to the next concept a little early, before they are totally ready. There can be a retroactive clarity to the previous step elements when you are doing them in the next step. It isn't particularly worth teaching the thinking process. You can preview the end result of the thinking process with some activities and that can be fun and illustrative. But I think the biggest problem is taking a seemingly good idea and then it becomes the exclusive approach. All we do is teach thinking process now. It has done practically no good.
