Two cold Sundays

Last Sunday our team drill focused on hypothermia and cold weather injuries. Our new Ice Tent served us well in 8 Degree weather.

Today, our team worked in frigid waters while training with other teams.

training day.

Yesterday on a training mission with Ramapo Search & Rescue Dogs, we tested Virtual Reality in Search Management. Some felt queasy, but others loved seeing the 3D terrain with live searcher locations. Multiple screens in command with no space taken—game-changing tech!

Sams Point Search & Rescue's training yesterday was a patient stranded on an island with a raging river on both sides! Rescuer was lowered from a cliff, and
hoisted with subject to the opposite peak . (We got to play the role of the subject—thankfully, no crocodiles this time!)

In addition to the thousands (>10k) of Starlink kits we are delivering in response to Hurricane Helene, the @Starlink team and @TMobile activated our Direct to Cell satellites to provide emergency alerts for all phones and carriers of those in affected areas.

The @FCC has also rapidly approved emergency special temporary authority for coverage in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton.

We have now enabled basic texting (SMS) for those on T-Mobile phones in hurricane affected areas. Text messages have already been sent and received. You can text loved ones, text 911 and continue to receive emergency alerts.

If a phone connects to a Starlink satellite, it will have 1 to 2 bars of signal and show "T-Mobile SpaceX" in the network name. Users may have to manually retry text messages if they don't go through at first, as this is being delivered on a best-effort basis. The service works best outdoors, and occasionally works indoors near a window.

Yesterday our teams continued assisting Law Enforcement in North Carolina with resupply missions to families out of food and water in cut-off areas. Every mission requires a safety evaluation to decide what tools are needed to complete it safely.

Our Rapid Response team responded Tuesday to North Carolina. They assisted fire departments and @Chabad in evacuating seniors without food, water, electricity, or phone service. FEMA, the National Guard, and State agencies are working to restore services to devastated areas.

Our team has deployed to assist NYS DEC @nysdec and NY-FEDSAR on a Search in New York State.

Mr. Musk, All of us in the Rescue field are anxiously waiting. We can help with testing and rollout in really diverse conditions. We already rely on Starlink and it has changed the game in Search and Rescue, Sir.

We would like to express our appreciation to Vermont State Police @VTStatePolice for allowing us to assist on a Search and Rescue mission last night. All hikers returned safely, and our full team was back in service this morning at 8am.

Yesterday, we joined Sams Point Search and Rescue and @NYstateparks Rangers for a challenging Rescue Drill at Sam's Point Area of Minnewaska State Park Preserve. Miles of traveling with gear to the "subject", and evacaution through heavy ground cover.
