I went to the merchandise hauler just now where it hit me. Seeing the fans all dressed up in older gear reminded me Throwback weekend is much bigger than paint schemes. This weekend connects new and old fans to our sport’s history in multiple meaningful ways for everyone to enjoy.
I understand the frustrations of trying to execute a great scheme, but also think we should be careful to not dismiss the fans that absolutely love this race.
Throwback Weekend honoring past drivers and teams is great. This week, we've seen Patty Moise be honored, Jimmy Spencer's at the shop, John Andretti's family is involved again. Drivers and teams add significance to racing and once they're gone this gives a chance to say "we appreciate what you did, we remember you."

Was laying in bed with a fever watching the 1988 Nascar season as one does when they are ill. During the Martinsville broadcast they mentioned that Neil Bonnet was rumored to be going to Hendrick Motorsports the next season. I asked Rick and he didn’t recall that being a thing, and they did keep the same lineup in 1989. But just fun to imagine if that had some true.
