A year and a half ago, I sat in a room with a few team owners, fighting for two things that many thought were impossible.

First, we wanted to go pro as a league. Second, we proposed a bold new rule, the Third-Down Female Rule, to ensure we could begin fielding a full female team on third down, and with the long-term vision of representing Nigeria at the Olympics. At this time Nigeria didn’t have a single female quarterback.

It wasn’t an easy battle. But along with the rules committee of Showtime, we pushed through. We faced resistance, we argued our case, and in the end—we got the buy in of everyone.

Today, watching Team Nigeria compete at the African Flag Continentals, I’m filled with nothing but pride. I’m proud of the entire Showtime team. I’m proud of every single team owner, past or present, who voted on that day. I’m proud of Nigeria and what we’ve built.

We didn’t just talk—we led a movement. We moved flag football in Nigeria to a new height.

To now see that 10 out of the 12 players and majority of all the coaches representing Nigeria are either current Showtime Players or had their first pro flag football experience in Showtime is nothing short of incredible. And for the women, to know that nearly every lady on that squad either plays or once played in Showtime League, is another powerful reminder that what we fought for mattered.

As I look across the continent and observe the state of flag football infrastructure in different countries, I’m even more convinced that what we’ve built through Showtime, and within the Nigerian flag football ecosystem as a whole, is truly special. The level of planning, the consistency in our tournaments, the standard of our operations, and the sheer quality of our infrastructure stand out. And while there’s still room for growth everywhere, it’s clear that we are not just participating in the movement—we are helping to define its direction. That realization is both humbling and energizing.

We’ve done a good job. And we’re just getting started. I can’t wait to see what’s next. To the amazing Team Owners that’s walked this with me past and present, we may have our differences but nothing beats what we have done for our motherland:

The #ShowtimeBowl was a phenomenal success - our biggest event yet! The energy, passion, skill and euphoria on display prove why #Showtimebowl is truly special in Nigerian sport. The #Bowl was watched across more than 40 countries and counting.

To the dozens of staff members and volunteers who worked hard behind the scenes. To the hundreds of player who stepped onto the field. To the thousands of fans who cheered loudly. Thank you. Your dedication made this event unforgettable and set a new standard for flag football in Nigeria.

Congratulations to our champions! Your hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship exemplify everything #ShowtimeBowl stands for. You’ve inspired us all to raise the bar even higher next season.

Together, we’re shaping the narrative of flag football as a platform for teamwork, strategy, and national pride. We’ll keep Nigeria at the pinnacle of competition on and off the field.

Sunday’s success also highlights why flag football needs a national federation. This is why Showtime is committed to working together with all Flag football stakeholders and the National Sports Commission @NatSportsComm to develop a structured and unified Federation that will ensure focused developmental effort, transparent governance, and clear pathways for athletes to develop at every level and fulfil their dream of playing at the #ShowtimeBowl.

For this reason, I would like to thank the #NSC for embracing our vision and pledging to guide the creation of a dedicated flag football federation. Your partnership is critical to our sport’s sustainable growth.

I also want to use this opportunity to announce the focus of @showitmeffl over the next 18 months:

1) National expansion
2) Nationwide infrastructure development
3) Talent focused grassroot development

I would like to thank the Chairman of the Commission @ShehuDikko, the Director General @BukolaOlopadee, the President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee @engr_gumel for honoring our invitation to the Bowl.

To our great partners @adidas Nigeria, @ritefoodsng @Sosafruitdrink @CoscharisMotors and all the business leaders that took their time out to attend the event. We continue to promise value, growth and brand visibility.

Earlier this week, key stakeholders of flag football met with the NSC to discuss key issues around the sport and its development. It has now been agreed that Showtime and NAFA would demonstrate the sport of flag football at the National Sports Festival in Ogun State and also work together under the guidance of the National Sport Commission (NSC) to develop a structure that supports the development of the sport.

In addition, all players are now free to play at club level without any repercussions. We advise all our players to please inform their camp coordinators ahead of their schedules.

Special thanks to the Chairman, Mallam @ShehuDikko and (Hon) Chief @BukolaOlopadee of the @NatSportsComm and the Senior Special Assistant to The President on Grassroot Sports, Honorable @AdeboyeAnthony for leading this initiative to secure the future and growth of the sport. The League is working on a broader transfer policy to help players and owners make the right decision when signing contracts.

While teams maintain autonomy in determining trade destinations, any transfer agreement must align with the player's contractual requirements and personal terms to be considered valid and enforceable.

Teams must honor exit clause payments when players wish to leave. If a team does not want to accept an exit clause payment, they are required to arrange a trade for that player. Teams cannot both refuse to sell and reject the exit clause payment.

Without an exit clause in the contract, the team and player must agree on a transfer fee. If no agreement is reached, the player becomes a free agent.

If a player is to leave a team, they can either see out their contract, be traded or invoke their exit clause.

When the exit clause is triggered, the player must pay the stated value to the team to become a free agent.

Players with no stated wage (wage of 0) can only be transferred for free, except when either:

1) both teams agree on a transfer fee, or
2) there is a non-zero exit clause in the contract.

The standard trading value for a player is calculated by taking either their exit clause amount or their annual salary (monthly salary x 12).
