The future of our state depends on the strength of our education system.
To maintain current funding levels, the state would need an additional $20 billion in 2021-22.
Our only option is to #TaxCABillionaires#CACountdown
Latinx children are 8x more likely & Black children are 5x more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than white children.
We don’t live in an equal society. It’s on lawmakers to push for it.
#CALeg, it’s on you to #TaxCABillionaires#CACountdown

Nancy’s story: As a result of the pandemic, Nancy's appointment to get a plate for her bottom teeth was cancelled, & she’s had no dental care since. With the proposed cuts in Denti-Cal benefits, she fears losing her bottom teeth.
We must #TaxCABillionaires to prevent the cuts.
"I suffer from a serious illness & don’t have medical insurance. Once I went to the hospital & got a very high bill that made me not come back. I had to decide between paying rent or treating my condition." - Unnamed w/@CALimmigrant
Black and Latino Americans are three times more likely than white Americans to get infected with COVID-19 and are also more likely to be without health care coverage. If we don’t tax the ultra wealthy it will literally cost lives. #CALeg must act before it’s too late.
Undocumented immigrants have been ravaged by a virus that thrives in the close quarters of the factories, fields, and packing houses in which they provide essential services for everyone. Yet society deprives them of healthcare. #TaxCABillionaires#CACountdown
"In spite of the fact that we're in a pandemic, California leaders failed to expand health care to communities that need it most - particularly communities of color and those with low incomes" says @JenAFlory with @Western_Center#committoequity#taxcabillionaires
We agree there’s still so much work to do! Today we made progress on #CalEITC and other legislation, now it’s time our legislative leaders commit to invest in ALL communities! #TaxCABillionares#CACountdown
Millions of us are on the edge. We have never needed our leaders more than this moment and they are a few hours away from failing us. We pray for frontline Latino and Black workers who are dying at 3-4 times the rate of white Californians. #TaxCABillionares#CACountdown
The #CACountdown ends tonight. We are suffering from a public health & economic crisis with unemployment greater than the Great Recession, both of which are deepening a crisis of enduring racial inequity. Our leaders are set to fail us as they decided not to #TaxCABillionaires
Children of color are more likely than white children to live in poverty in California, largely due to a legacy of racist policies and practices and ongoing discrimination.
Lawmakers could have made sure no child lives in poverty, yet they decided not to #TaxCABillionaires.
Leaders in Sacramento decided not to #TaxCABillionaires. The cost of their inaction will be paid by Black & Brown families who are the least able to shoulder this burden. We pray for those who will suffer and for our leaders to lead us to better days. #CACountdown
Today is the last day of #CALeg session.
They had weeks to pass legislation to reduce inequality but they never allowed votes on bills to #TaxCABillionaires.
We join in solidarity and pray for the largely Black & Brown lives who they’ve put at risk. #CAcountdown

"Multiple crises in our state underscore our urgent need to address racial and ethnic health disparities. The choices are clear, we can ensure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share or we can cut our health safety net in the middle of a pandemic" says, Linda from @CPEHN
Our #CAcountdown ends today but our fight for justice is just getting started. It’s not enough for lawmakers to say they stand with communities of color - they must #TaxCABillionaires to invest in a just recovery from COVID-19, recession and racism.
In solidarity with the movement for Black Lives Matter and the righteous & peaceful protests nationwide, we have canceled our vigil. But #CALeg must hear our voices & #TaxCABillionaires & invest in a just recovery from COVID19, recession and systemic racism.
There is no plan to build a robust public health infrastructure to re-open our economy or our schools.
There is no plan to avoid $14 billion in cuts to our state budget in October.
There is no plan – except to leave town without even voting to #TaxCABillionaires.
#CACountdown
Students of color are being left behind by prolonged school closures.
32% of Black students and 33% of Latino students cannot participate in distance learning because they have limited internet access.
#TaxCABillionaires#CACountdown
For too long America has forced Black families to shoulder unbearable burdens. Fearing for their very lives in the hands of police sworn to protect them is among the greatest. CA can’t heal deep injustices unless we #TaxCABillionaires and invest in communities of color.
The rich get richer while those in need, suffer even more.
Today is the last day of session in Sacramento and lawmakers refused to tax the ultra wealthy. Shame on them.
