@David__Osland And since the Norman conquest, most of the land is still owned by the same families that were seized as part of this conquest.

Is this a coincidence too?
1/ Times report on McCarthy Stone resales is appalling. Just done Times radio, and it declined to participate, repeating drivel about incentives explaining catastrophic resale price falls. It simply refuses to engage with the problem, choosing to make money on new sales premiums rather than a sustainable, long term model. @mtpennycook@josephpowell@Hack4Labour
Some news: I'm presenting and co-writing a new short Radio 4 series, Untaxing.
It's about how tax affects our lives: from the Laffer Curve, to the Beatles, to Jaffa Cakes, and modern day avoidance.
1.45pm on Radio 4, every day next week, and on BBC Sounds as each episode airs.
@gamecounsel@NLC_2019 Absolutely correct. It is truly half-baked for leaseholders to rubbish commonhold as two-tier - doing the freeholders' keep-the-status-quo lobbying for them.
On March 5, 1940, a decision was made in Moscow to murder over 22 thousand Polish war prisoners. May the memory of the Russian lie and Katyń crime be a warning for the world. Let us always call it as it is: a crime is a crime, a victim - a victim, an aggressor - an aggressor.
Commonhold is not merely an alternative to leasehold ownership, but a radical improvement on it.
The publication of our Commonhold White Paper today is the beginning of the end of the feudal leasehold system.

@Robert_May_@NLC_2019 Its taken many years to build relationships with important organisations and with government aides in the fight to abolish leasehold
We might not continually make a song and dance about it on socials but all the hard work is going on in the background 🙂

2010-2019 purchase years
New builds underperform the market by a significant amount, especially Leaseholds.
Looking at actual property transactions that were completed in 2024 and reported to HM Land Registry.
If you want to see a particular purchase year, let me know.
The government have today laid regulations that will allow leaseholders across the country to more easily and cheaply take control of their buildings and bear down on poor service and spiralling charges.
Great initiative. Michael Ellis wrote this excellent article for the LKP website about Cramlington, and successive developers dumping leasehold on the locals: https://t.co/obUsh7kmbj

Extremely important judicial review re challenge to LAFRA2024 over human rights of freehold investors -
29-30 Jan 2025.
The outcome of this will determine how fast @mtpennycook & government can switch on significant enfranchisement changes.

@mk270 "For far too many leaseholders, the reality of home ownership falls woefully short of the dream they were promised. Labour will act where the Conservatives have failed and finally bring the feudal leasehold system to an end"
NEW: Labour's New Deal for Leaseholders is published today.
This is the #leaseholdrevolution we need to end the leasehold scandal.

Anyone could argue there’s already a multi-tier leasehold system (with SoF, SO, RTM, RMC etc) so Commonhold for newbuilds with a simplified process for existing leaseholds to convert would be progressive it’s all about choice
