Three reasons for why everybody, including atheists, should believe Christianity is true:

1. Historical Evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ: The resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian belief, and substantial historical evidence supports its plausibility. The New Testament accounts, written within the lifetime of eyewitnesses, provide multiple, independent attestations of Jesus’ crucifixion, burial, and post-resurrection appearances to diverse groups, including skeptics like Paul and James. The rapid emergence of the early Christian movement, despite intense persecution and the absence of political or military power, suggests a transformative event. Secular historians, such as those cited in works like Gary Habermas’ The Case for the Resurrection, note that the empty tomb and the disciples’ willingness to die for their belief in the risen Christ are historically credible, as people rarely martyr themselves for a known fabrication.
2. Philosophical Coherence of Christian Theism: Christianity offers a robust framework for explaining fundamental questions about existence, morality, and purpose. The Christian worldview posits a purposeful intelligent design behind the universe, aligning with philosophical arguments like the cosmological (first cause) and teleological (design) arguments for God’s existence. The moral argument, as articulated by thinkers like C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity, suggests that universal moral intuitions—such as the inherent wrongness of cruelty—point to a transcendent moral lawgiver. Christianity’s account of human dignity, free will, and redemption provides a coherent explanation for both the order of the cosmos and the human condition, addressing existential questions in a way that secular philosophies often leave unresolved.
3. Transformative Impact on Individuals and Societies: The enduring and widespread influence of Christianity on personal lives and societal structures offers evidence of its truth. Countless individuals across centuries have reported profound personal transformation—marked by purpose, moral renewal, and hope—attributed to their faith in Christ. Sociologically, Christianity has shaped ethical systems, inspired institutions like hospitals and universities, and driven movements for justice, such as the abolition of slavery led by figures like William Wilberforce. This transformative power, documented in historical studies like Rodney Stark’s The Rise of Christianity, suggests a dynamic spiritual reality that resonates with human needs and aspirations, lending credence to its claims.
