People speaking up about their communities isn’t “weaponized democracy”it is democracy.

When residents organize, sign petitions, or demand a say in decisions that affect their neighbourhoods, that’s not something to fear. It’s something to respect.

Dismissing those voices as somehow dangerous simply because they don’t align with a particular viewpoint misses the point.

And when leaders stop listening, voters notice.

In Ward 11, we just saw the result: the largest defeat of an incumbent in Calgary’s history.

Democracy isn’t dangerous, ignoring people is.

While knocking doors in Ward 11, residents were clear: blanket rezoning and the loss of community input were major concerns. Today, Council listened. By a 13–2 vote, Council directed administration to begin repealing blanket rezoning, leading to a public hearing in March. #yyccc

We believe it. Blanet rezoning was THE ballot box issue. The majority in Ward 8 voted for candidates who were against blanket rezoning. @nate_for_8 you only won because of vote splitting. Blanket rezoning must be tossed, just like we tossed Kourtney Penner in Ward 11 #yyccc

Believe it or not, blanket rezoning is back at city hall.

People around the city are outraged by what has been allowed with the new rezoning bylaw. Our communities are being harvested by mercenaries with little interest beyond how much profit they will make. Blanket zoning must go! #yyccc
