Community Solidarity Ottawa

Coalition of labour, community, and residents in so-called Ottawa. Let's build a working-class movement that can defend our communities and our rights.

[Community Solidarity Ottawa @CommunitySolid2]

1/ In recognition of both our collective and successful opposition to fascist bigotry since 2022, we, the people of Ottawa, hereby declare September 20th to be “Community Defence Day” #Ottawa

[Sam Hersh @SamHersh01]

This is Rob McKee who just spoke in front of #ottcity council.

For those who don't know Rob, he is the leader of the far-right, anti-trans Bikers Church in Ottawa.

In the clip, he openly says that @OttawaPolice INVITED him to join anti-trans protests...wtf...

[Community Solidarity Ottawa @CommunitySolid2]

Creepy weirdos Billboard Chris and Maxime Bernier plan to gather this Friday in front of our schools to spread transphobic hatred. Again.

Let's show up and support community members who shouldn't have to deal with weird men harassing kids at school. #Ottawa

🚨🚨Alert Ottawa!🚨🚨
Violent Diagolon extremist Nick Smith says that he is currently in Ottawa.
For the second time in a year he removed his ankle monitor in order to evade the police.

Our shelter system is overwhelmed, and the city is looking at a sprung structure to address this crisis.

Fear-mongering opposition from local MPPs and councillors has been unproductive and quite frankly, problematic.

In fact, focusing on a lack of civility and decorum only serves to make things worse, as marginalized people are told that it is impolite to harshly criticize the people who shout slurs at us on the street and try to strip us of our rights.

[Community Solidarity Ottawa @CommunitySolid2]

Lack of civility and decorum is not the problem, fascism, and a liberal unwillingness to name, never mind confront, the problem is.

[Community Solidarity Ottawa @CommunitySolid2]

How can we address the serious threats to our public institutions if we can’t even discuss the source of the problem because “bOtH sIdEs”?

[Charlie Angus @CharlieAngusNDP]

The first time I was accused of being "Antifa", I had to ask my daughter what it meant.
She said it meant anti-fascist.
Well hell ya.
I come from a long line of anti-fascists.
My uncles kicked serious Nazi ass.
As if we are going to give up the streets today.
No pasaran.

[Community Solidarity Ottawa @CommunitySolid2]

Thanks for coming out, Charlie!

[Charlie Angus @CharlieAngusNDP]

I saw the "million man march" crew at Parliament.
They were off by about five zeros.
And the ones who were there got totally freaked out by the queer and trans youth who showed up.
As always, when confronted bullies turn to snowflakes.

Politicians should be paying attention to what happened yesterday. Despite the rage baiting, despite the misinformation, despite how easy it is to fear difference, bigotry was easily outnumbered across Canada. Even in the western provinces. Transphobia is not gaining traction. It's losing. Betting your electoral fortunes on using it as a tool? Maybe look around, give your head a shake, and realize that's the losing strategy. #nospaceforhate

Thank you to all the fierce 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ counter-protest organizers 🇨🇦 across Canada #NoSpaceForHate #LGBTQ+

[CUPE Ontario @CUPEOntario]

CUPE Ontario President, Fred Hahn, and members of our Pink Triangle Committee joined counter protesters in Toronto today in standing up to right wing activists who organized to protest teaching 2SLGBTQIA+ content in schools under the guise of protecting children. They continue to target those that are most vulnerable in our communities and schools. 🚫‼️

Unions will always fight for a fairer, just, and more equitable future for all – including our children. ✊🏾📢🏳️‍🌈

[Charlie Angus @CharlieAngusNDP]

All week the race haters stood outside parliament threatening people and insulting Indigenous legislators.
They had a free ride from @OttawaPolice.
Then @theJagmeetSingh stood up to them.
And today young queer and trans kids put the run on them.
No pasaran.
Happy September 20.

[Charlie Angus @CharlieAngusNDP]

I joined a youth led march against the hate and conspiracy mob outside Parliament.
Some young Gen Z asked me to help carry one of their banners.
It was an honour.
Hate has no place in our communities.
