Let's clear this up once and for all.

Here is the EXACT proposed wording for the amendment to the Constitution to incorporate The Voice to Parliament. Please share it far and wide so that everyone's mind can be finally placed at ease.

SECTION 129 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice

"3. The Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws with respect to matters relating to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, including its the composition, functions, powers and procedures"

Crazed cookers keep on asking about details and about the implications of this amendment. Well let me explain.

Quite simply, it grants "Parliament" the constitutional "power" to pass ANY laws as long as The Voice to Parliament say that it relates to Aborigines (and let's face it, Aborigines are citizens of this nation so literally everything can relate to them).

If there's every a question mark over whether the Commonwealth Parliament has the constitutional power to pass a piece of legislation, they can always rely on Section 129 granting said power. They can even legislate on the "composition, function, powers and procedures" around granting this power. The procedural requirement could be as simple as a signed letter.

This opens up MASSIVE realm of possibilities and wonderful OPPORTUNITIES for the government to enact all sorts of legislation that it may have otherwise been unable to due to the LIMITS once imposed by that pesky OUT DATED Commonwealth Constitution. This could include way OVERDUE laws limiting speech which somehow may offend an Aboriginal person because it speaks ill of that person's government? Or laws which limit your freedom of movement to protect the health concerns of Aboriginal people? It could include changes to the Electoral Act to create a better, fairer mode of election (and ensure the right party remains in government)! All sorts of wonderful laws for all of our collective benefit and protection.

So there you have it. The Voice adds a new Section 129 to the Commonwealth Constitution which creates an IMPORTANT constitutional body to rubber stamp any piece of legislation that the Federal Government wants to pass and circumvent the current limits of constitutional powers.

I therefore implore everyone to GET BEHIND The Voice and ensure that we have one STABLE government in power for many many many terms to come. If we're lucky enough, we'll have one Labor Party government in power in perpetuity!
