The actor who plays Joe Jackson is terrifying. That guy deserves a best supporting actor nomination. He does the most for the film to feel like a proper movie. He is a clear antagonist that Michael has to overcome.
Also, the fact that the other Jackson siblings ok'd this film depiction of their father says a lot.
“Liz Lemon, this is Dan Houseman.”
“It’s Danhausen.”
“Whatever his name is, I gave him 5 dollars to curse Martin Lawrence in 1996 and I’ve been on top ever since”
@NYMag I would love people's take on her statement that "selecting soldiers for officer training" was part of intelligence testing's ugly history.
I'm totally OK using IQ tests to choose military officers but apparently @kttheet is not...?
Yeah I really enjoyed Never Let Me Go.
The book is better than The Remains of the Day. (Blasphemy, I know)
It's a sci fi tragedy with Ishiguro's themes of memory and regret. Don't want to ruin the book for you, but...clones are people too!
Have you thought about the ethical implications of raising clones for organ harvesting? We'll get there someday. Only Ishiguro has thought about what this means emotionally and ethically and packaged it in this tale of three friends.
Btw the movie is terrible and Kiera Knightley was horribly miscast in one of the lead roles.
Really skeptical Andover doubles your odds. There is huge selection bias here and the Ivy League is sensitive to the optics of taking too many students from the same schools.
Andover screens for 99th percentile test takers and has a fair number of legacies to boot. If a child has 99th percentile scores and is a legacy, attending a nice private school from an under-represented state (say Kentucky or Louisiana) would help more. Geographic diversity is still defensible and something these schools struggle to attain.
5-7 activities. Too many activities diluted your best friend's narrative. A counselor at a richer school would've explained this. I imagine the Stuy counselor is decent but overwhelmed with students.
Also, Model UN is a waste of time & globalist propaganda. No application reader is impressed with Model UN. (This applicant represented Pakistan at a bullshit conference.)
There should be a Model IMF where students learn about lending money to developing countries to buy weapons.
@Perez_Writes@annbauerwriter I read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius over twenty years ago. I remember laughing out loud. I wonder if the book still holds up.
