Rather than conceptualize the porch as a superadded element attached to a house, this proposal rescales and foregrounds it to shape housing. The 'hyper-porch' moves beyond the porch’s accessory function to give a complex of buildings added social functionality.

🧱✨ What happens when a brick wall starts to transmit light?

This simple yet striking experiment by Glass Bricks explores how replacing selected clay bricks with solid glass blocks can completely transform a wall’s character.

As daylight passes through the glass elements, the traditionally heavy, opaque surface becomes luminous, creating shifting patterns of light and shadow throughout the day.

A small material intervention, but a powerful reminder of how light can redefine space.

The giant kinetic umbrellas of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi transform one of the world’s largest religious courtyards into a climate-responsive architectural landscape. ☀️

Developed by SL Rasch GmbH in collaboration with SEFAR, the mosque’s 250 foldable PTFE canopies open like enormous mechanical flowers, shading pilgrims from extreme desert temperatures that can surpass 48°C during Hajj season.

Rising nearly 20 meters high, the structures reduce ambient temperatures by at least 8°C while preserving the spiritual atmosphere and visual identity of the Prophet’s Mosque. More than shading devices, they operate as a sophisticated environmental system where engineering, material innovation, and architecture work together at an urban scale.
