Strengthen what remains. | "To live with courage is a virtue. Whatever one may think of the dominant assumptions of one's age..." | Agreeably Tory & Trad.
“Let us never forget the solemn truth that the nation is not constituted of the living alone. There are those as well who have passed away and those yet to be born. So this great responsibility comes to us as heirs of the past and trustees of the future.” - Sir Robert Borden
@randyhillier@FortySacks In what harbours, customs houses, and courts, Mr Hillier? Most gave up what they had to spend years hacking down bush on their new land grants. If they loved position over principle, why would they have stayed loyal in the first place?
Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound.
May peace forever be our lot,
And plenteous stores abound.
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever,
And flourish green o’er freedom’s home
The maple leaf forever!
@pegobry_en I don’t often disagree with you, M. Gobry, but I doubt the world would be more Soviet had the template for modern, mass, and ideological revolutions failed. 1917 is quite directly downstream from 1776, via 1789.
@DirtyLeg79 And, even if it did, wouldn’t terrorists murdering cabinet ministers pretty clearly count as domestic enemies? What a strange post that is.
Pennsylvania has declared INDEPENDENCE from Great Britain.
Pennsylvania is the fourth colony to unilaterally declare itself as independent from the crown.
@gerrylynch Thankfully you’re right. There is a quasi-referendum on the topic in October, but support for separation remains the minority position. Its loudest proponents at the moment also seem more interested in eventual annexation by the United States than actual independence.
U.S. and Canadian history are more intertwined than people realize. A contingent of the Continental Army was briefly based in Montreal in 1775-76 in an effort to recruit Canadians to the revolutionary cause. Learned a lot about our shared history at the Château Ramezay Museum.
