At #PCRLV 2024, we were thrilled to welcome @nicolasamabile and @juliendjdj from ACTIF, a French congress built around simulation-based learning, dedicated to managing complications and mastering complex procedures in #interventionalcardiology.

Exciting news ahead: PCR and ACTIF will join forces in 2025 to launch international, innovative simulation-based training programs tailored for young cardiologists.

The balloon gets stuck after post-dilation. It gets worse the shaft breaks when you try to pull the system out - you can't retrieve it, you can't snare it.

If PCI as a "therapy" for stable ischemic heart disease is controversial, its role as a "prevention" for vulnerable plaques is even more controversial.

In a few weeks, at ACC.24, the PREVENT investigators will present the results of a multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial comparing preventive PCI plus medical therapy versus medical therapy alone in more than 1,600 patients with functionally insignificant (fractional flow reserve >0.80) vulnerable plaques containing multiple high-risk features.

Anticipating the presentation and publication of PREVENT, we invited @dukwoo_park and @DavidLBrownMD to debate on prophylactic stenting of vulnerable plaques.

Nevertheless, observational studies are frequently employed to assess intervention effectiveness in real-world settings. They offer insights into rare outcomes and long-term effects, are cost-effective, and provide more generalizable results. However, observational studies are prone to biases and confounding, which can be statistically assessed but may ultimately compromise the validity of findings. The role of observational studies in shaping evidence-based medicine remains a matter of debate.
