'The more restrictions and prohibitions in the world,
the poorer people get.
[…]The louder the call for law and order,
the more the thieves and con men multiply.'
(Tao Te Ching, s. 57, Ursula K. Le Guin translation)
My first thought was that Donna was being overly pedantic, but actually when it comes to report writing, you can't be too pedantic. Precision matters. The authors should have taken care not to blur these terms. Marginal conflations of terminology betray a lack of conceptual understanding - and that much becomes more obvious the more of the report you read. The organised crime dimension is largely neglected - rendering the work valueless.
That, though, is secondary. Donna is far from alone in saying that this process required a formal methodology, and the report should have been compiled by qualified researchers with an established record of forensic writing - preferably in this academic area. Criminology, sociology and psychology.
Donna would have been a good editorial director, and the final report deserved far more effort than was put into it. As much as anything, it needed supervisory female input who was not a victim.
In their galactic arrogance, though, Pitt and Downes assumed they were experienced and knowledgeable to produce this work. They aren't. They lack the breadth of knowledge or any the necessary experience. They're kids - and this should not have been entrusted to kids. That much is negligence on Lowe's part.
Ultimately, this is a missed opportunity. The inquiry was much better resourced than a PhD research project and, if it had been structured similar to one, with academic rigour, it could have been useful.
There might have been good reasons why Donna Rachel was not a good fit, but that's no excuse not to look outside for independent academic input and professional editorial services. It's not as though they couldn't afford it. It is unprofessional slop. Abusing Donna Rachel doesn't change that. The hostility, and the willingness to defend this amateurish toss tells you all you need to know about Restore Britain - and their attitude to grooming victims. Yet again, the victims have been exploited.
When I was 6 years old, Israel dropped bombs disguised as toys on us in Lebanon.
New report reveals that Israel left behind bombs disguised as toys in Gaza.
Today, a cluster bomb shaped like a small football found in South Lebanon.
But keep talking about Israel not targeting children.
@BertDalziel Her name is Donna and she runs a project called @Archive4Truth which aims to document the testimony of the grooming gang survivors and give them support.
She was involved with Lowe’s project at the beginning but left because his staff were uninterested in following any
@TaniaAMarshall@Donna_Rachel_ She makes valid points though. The report is anecdotal, doesn't go deep into causes or mechanisms underpinning systemic failures.
A bit of context that might be missed outside the UK: the report was produced by one political party. It's a partisan attack tool.
@thecoastguy They are going with device level censorship.
You'll have to prove your age to use products you've already bought.
It's fucking ridiculous.
I'm sick of this shit and everyone's apathy towards it.
We're getting steam rolled and nonine gives a fucking damn.
This is an ongoing conversation that I’m continuing to have with a young woman who is wanting to medicalize. She’s speaking with me before she goes forward.
@adamndsmith@eff_hey@peterkyle On the other hand, as a result I've learned that it's an offence to send "persistent emails to cause annoyance". Something I plan to use against [every shop I bought a single item from some years ago].
If you take action against weapons manufacturers about Gaza you’re a terrorist
If you email your MP about Gaza then they’ll engage in lawfare for a year, you’ll be charged and sent to trial, with the prosecution offering no evidence
Holy shit. The EU Commission gave €2.4 million to a researcher for a project intended to "free science and society from the unfounded dogma of sex categories" and "to challenge the ancient categorization of humans into men and women and the unjust gendered social order this categorization helps maintain."
The grant has resulted in just three research papers, all concerning sexual attraction, based on internet surveys and an existing dataset (from what I can tell, there is nothing more).
What the hell?? Two and a half million? It's like that UK project that got €750k and produced a couple of internet surveys on "fragile heterosexuality".
Another Major Transgender Suicide Study Crumbles
A widely cited study published in the prestigious @NatureHumBehav claimed that “anti-transgender laws” encouraged teen suicide attempts.
A new methodological review dismantles that finding.
New from me in @cityjournal
I'm sorry but if you believe governments around the world that are ignoring and/or involved in a global pedophilia ring are forcing digital ID for internet access to "protect the children", you are really fucking stupid.
🚨Tech Secretary Signals Fresh Assault on Privacy: “We’re Coming Back for More” With VPN Bans and Extra Measures 💬 🚫
Starmer’s regime is barreling toward full-blown authoritarian control and they’re not even hiding it anymore.
Just days after rushing out a blanket social media ban for under-16s, the Tech Secretary is already on the airwaves admitting they’ve got no real answers on enforcement… yet proudly announcing “further statements in July” on VPN restrictions, curfews, chatbots, and more crackdowns.
Before the first ban is even rolled out.
This isn’t about protecting kids. It’s a thirst for surveillance and censorship. They want zero privacy. They want to know exactly what you’re doing and saying online at all times. Age verification, facial scans, VPN blocks – the infrastructure of a digital police state.
Starmer is an authoritarian with no real mandate, racing to ram this through before the public boots him out. No detailed plan, no proper scrutiny, just more control.
This country is being f*cked by a government obsessed with power over people.
