whatever the debate about removing particular measures, it's clear that the manner & tone and timing of the announcement it based primarily on the need to generate a kind of 'feel good' buzzy dynamic; it's driven by an electoral dynamic & it would be naive to regard it otherwise
I do feel that a lot of people who would roll their eyes at Tory 'freedom days' and the like, and recognise their highly political and ideological flavour, think that the dynamics are different here, that political dynamics are more wholesome, and I think they're squarely wrong.
I'd like to pandemic to be over as much as anyone would, but this just gives me déjà vu to the last time the State declared the pandemic over - only about four months ago.
