Alberta RCMP issued more than 1,100 traffic tickets over the August long weekend.
Between July 31 and Aug. 3, officers conducted enhanced enforcement across the province and handed out 1,107 tickets. Of those, 513 were for speeding, 27 for distracted driving and 20 for seatbelt infractions.
Police also removed 90 drivers from the road for alleged impairment by alcohol or drugs. That included 13 drivers who received 24-hour Immediate Roadside Sanctions, 14 who received WARN sanctions, 59 who failed, and four novice or commercial drivers removed under ZERO provisions.
RCMP reported 28 injury collisions and five fatal collisions over the long weekend.
