@sado0og@BeastOfTruth@asha_shar I don’t have all the details but I think I remember Microsoft having to sign an agreement that they would not make them exclusive in order to get FTC approval for the acquisition
@afoxdesign Honestly they can’t completely stop that at an individual level. Ironically, the only meaningful way to prevent businesses from buying them up for that use is to make the price higher than the alternatives. Which is why I don’t think they will subsidize this.
@afoxdesign Subsidizing is the best way but what you proposed (only selling/subsidizing 1 per proven Steam users) is not attracting new customers. It’s just losing money to existing customers.
@afoxdesign I get that part of it. But Valve could also enforce 1 unit per Steam account without subsidizing the Steam Machine. I don’t think they would see the incentive of taking a loss on each one sold if they are not gaining new customers by doing so.
@LudwigAhgren Nah props to you. There are many people that would want to go to EVO to experience something like that but maybe couldn’t afford to. I know they still gotta figure out travel/stay but every little bit helps. W game publisher
@2_Old_4_Gaming There’s probably a variety of factors at play. Offsetting losses in hardware or game development costs, increased cost in Amazon Web Services hosting, etc. No way to really know how it all breaks out.
@ColinEspMusic@chrisgpt Seems like a poor implementation. If this robot is stationary, they could alleviate this issue by having a hardwired power supply.
@petrichorcelain I’ve seen mixed opinions from reviewers about its plastic feel and ergos. The tech for the price is better than 1st party but since they don’t sell them in stores, there’s no way I’m buying it without knowing how it feels in hand unless Steam starts covering return shipping
