I see officers say, “you think you can do our job better? you try becoming an officer”. They’re missing the point.
We need to change police policies and practices, not simply hire more or better people to enact them.
Officers should be advocating for policy change too.
What people are saying is this:
The question is not whether this incident is justified under current law (officer acting as a reasonable officer would). The question is whether officers would have treated other people, primarily White people, the same.

My research with @ConnorPowelson & LASSR shows local residents & police officers desire body cams. It’s inexcusable that Prince George’s County, MD does not have them. Thanks to @EvanLambertTV for covering our research & issues of public concern.

We are using virtual reality to improve youth responses to cyberbullying.
Over half of youth report being victims of cyberbullying. The goal of this research is to identify how reactions to cyberbullying and intervention strategies depend on the race & gender of who is bullied.
Today the Critical Race Initiative stood in solidarity with the Hispanic& United Black Police Officers Associations. With the support of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee, ACLU, & NAACP, they have filed a lawsuit against the PG County Police Department for racial discrimination.
I’ll be presenting “Do Women Feel Different than Men? Testing Structural and Cultural Accounts of Gender Differences in Emotions”
Spoiler: the data supports a structural account!
