FCC's 'Hurricane Ida Comm's Status Report' shows catastrophic cellular outage the day Ida hit. The same report shows that 17 of 19 TV stations were still operational, as were all FM stations. One more example of why we need AWARN, a modernized alerting system based on ATSC 3.0.
This year's Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) test messages will only be displayed on wireless handsets where subscribers have “opted-in” to receive them. This will allow for a nationwide test without disturbing the public.
