@GMFinX@skrrskrrsiggy Oh okay my bad, I was going off where they said they have half the average student debt. So yes, they pay down around £50 a month, so they will never pay off the loan unless they overpay (which is an option) or earn more. But was this not expected?

@skrrskrrsiggy@GMFinX Yoy earn around £60k and pay back just over £200 a month right? That means you will have it paid off in 10-12 years. You are literally able to pay it back and if you weren’t then you don’t have to? I don’t get what the issue is? Why would a student loan be like a phone contract?
@GMFinX@skrrskrrsiggy The specific circumstances of the person I responded to owes around 24k and earns 60k. On a plan 2 loan that means they will pay around £230 a month and almost half will go towards paying down the debt
@MoDesigns12@GMFinX Literally! That’s how I always saw it 🤷♂️ Ideally it would be free (for some degrees) but everyone knew that wasn’t the case. I think a lot of graduates maybe see the big number and get scared. It makes me wonder how any of them have a degree when they can be so illogical lol
@GMFinX But before you signed up you knew that most people never pay it off because it makes no financial sense to? So what difference does the interest make? I don’t even really get why people look at it
