@SecretBeatrix I believe (it's been a few years) our vet was concerned about the possibility of damaging the jaw during the extraction. Because it didn't bother him we opted to leave it and trim it as needed.
@SecretBeatrix As you can see I had to tempt with treats.
He went in for dentals 1-2x a month for years. It was always fun to listen to the pause on the phone when new receptionists would ask what he was coming in for and I'd say "throat tooth trim". ๐คฃ
(Now see it was a molar. Oops!)
@DailyGuineaLips That must be so frustrating. ๐
Fingers crossed the visit with the exotics vet is more fruitful. IMO while all surgeries have risk, regardless of species, vets who are inexperienced with guinea pig surgery can make it sound more dramatic than it is. Don't give up hope!
@DailyGuineaLips We had a problem with bleeding in an older pig. We decided to spay and discovered a fist-sized uterine mass. Spaying solved the problem and she lived a long (and much more comfortable!) life.
@josstified@michbro85 We've been told prices are sometimes set higher if the vet doesn't feel comfortable with the procedure. Guess the goal is to motivate the client to look elsewhere.
@josstified@michbro85@badgerbumble Well, yes but no. The pill itself is beef flavored because it's technically for dogs/cats, but to *try* to make it tastier we use coconut cocktail mixer instead of water. Coconut went better than strawberry mixer.
@badgerbumble@michbro85 Sometimes our antibiotic comes in coconut flavored beef. There's no fixing that. ๐คข (we do like our anti-inflammatories though!)
