The @CoolTreeProject has many protocols to assess the biodiversity & fonction of these giants: 3D LiDAR scans, floristic and faunistic surveys, carbon stock & nutrient cycling... And of course my favorite, #microclimate! 🌡️
Yesterday I had a unexpected field day with @EkoLogIt. Just helped out a bit with the @CoolTreeProject, focusing on big old solitary trees 🌳, comparing urban & rural landscapes!
We collected insect traps, attached to each of those massive trees...
The @CoolTreeProject focuses on 3 common trees: Tilia (Lime), Quercus (Oak) & Fraxinus (Ash)
There are 10 study areas throughout Europe, 7 countries! We visited 15 trees, of the 24 in our zone around Amiens (Northern France)
Good luck with the rest today @EkoLogIt and @f_spicher!
Yesterday, together w/ @eva_gril (see her great 🧵⬇️), we surveyed large solitary trees #LSTs for the @CoolTreeProject, including a massive oak, look at this beautiful beast 🤩😍 The logger looks so tiny 😂😅
