‼️ Donald Trump and Andre Dickens have something in common: they both believe it’s OK to obstruct democracy when they don’t get their way.
2025 is an election year for mayor and city council. Watch the full video and join us to hold them accountable at https://t.co/pPtMTxXe0P
ATLANTA—The City Council passed legislation allowing a referendum vote on a 1% sales tax for water and sewer projects that would last for a maximum of six years and raise $1,100,000,000.
The special election will be May 21, 2024.
IN press conf. aftr SWAT raid, Atlanta mayor Dickens on right way “to make your voice heard” on 'Cop City': “going to city council” meetings–but same council won't count/verify 100k+ petition sign's fm voters wanting to decide on project:

Atlanta City Council has failed us. We deserve better. You deserve better. It is time to replace them. Nominate yourself or someone else to run for Atlanta City Council in 2025 at https://t.co/BgcxNjCJ5r. And please share widely!
WATCH: For months, Council has delayed, twisted, and undermined the process to stop Cop City from being on the ballot. We're setting the record straight on how this has unfolded—and the damage it's done to public trust and democracy:

Council passed their suppressionist process, but their job isn’t done. The mayor needs to drop the appeal and get out of the way so counting can start. We’re ready to make it happen.
We stand with those who put their bodies on the line on the dais today. The people will be heard.
Today, @atlcouncil sided with voter suppression over people forcing through a process w/ signature matching.
After the committee vote, Atlantans occupied the Council dais. This action in response to Council resulted in 3 being cuffed before ultimately being released. #gapol
BREAKING: At least three people have been arrested after Atlanta voters occupied the dais of @atlcouncil after Howard Shook and Andrea Boone forced re-introduction of signature matching into the signature verification process for the @CopCityVote referendum.
Andre Dickens, June 2023: "We respect each person’s right to free speech and the process regarding referendum."
Andre Dickens, January 2024: "[the referendum] hasn't advanced because it's not the right route to take...it's just political."
Which one is it, @andreforatlanta?
RIGHT NOW: "I'm disturbed by it."
Mayor Andre Dickens reacts to two 'Stop Cop City' activists chaining themselves to construction equipment of contractors involved in the building of the public safety training center.
APD arrested 2 GA residents for criminal trespassing.
"I knocked on doors gathering [referendum] signatures...residents tried every legal avenue to #stopcopcity, but the City has stonewalled us at every step. I don't want to have to be doing this, but direct action & civil disobedience are the only options we have left."
-Temperance

Instead of protecting direct democracy, our city continues to obstruct it.
Tell Mayor Dickens + Matt Westmoreland, and ANY other members pushing voter suppression: get out of the way and let the people decide.
@WfpGeorgia@ngpaction@fairfightaction@bmigeorgia@CASAforall
NOW: 10 mins before a committee vote on referendum legislation, @WestmorelandATL & allies of @andreforatlanta snuck a substitute, putting @LilianaforATL's name on it w/o their approval—or knowledge. The sub *re-adds* signature matching, a non-starter for voting rights experts.
They said they’d engage the community: they didn’t.
They said they’d be transparent: they weren’t.
They said they’d verify petitions: they haven’t.
They said the cost wouldn’t change: it did.
Enough.
Put the power back in the hands of the people and let the people decide.
BREAKING: The cost of Atlanta’s public safety training center has increased by $19M, according to a presentation given by the city to City Council. Taxpayers will not be on the hook for increased costs, the city says. #atpol https://t.co/soehnV1sIl
