Reading "Wastelands" by @CorbanAddison. Story is about a case against Smithfield but it speaks to the growth of Chinese owned ag operations in the US. A lot of recent talk here about the Chinese buying pot farms in Oklahoma, but this problem has existed for decades across ag.

#business#legal#history#books "Wastelands: The True Story of Farm Country on Trial" @CorbanAddison - monumental journalistic & narrative feat, vividly brings to life travails of folks who've suffered great harm from "Boss Hog" in eastern NC. Page-turner that teaches & moves.
Between Roe, SCOTUS, formerPOTUS, climate change, COVID I thought I'd reached my limit of rage. Then I read @CorbanAddison's Wastelands, brilliant reportage of corporate malfeace and political payoffs. Luckiy, I had room for a bit more rage.

One revelation: Chinese companies raise hogs in the US because it's cheaper to grow them here than in China. That's partly because China has tougher rules on managing waste than the US does. A big hog farm produces more waste than a small city but has no sewage treatment plant.
Rave review of "Wastelands," by @CorbanAddison, a nonfiction legal thriller about neighbors standing up to a giant company raising hogs. These factory farms are almost as cruel to people as they are to the hogs. https://t.co/iEIZMq5bqM
