Substreams 0.8.0 is out, and we replaced the protobuf codec, making it 2.9x faster. 🔥
prost → buffa. Blocks decode 2.9–4.9x faster.
Real backfills: → uniswap-v4 map_events, 1.5M Ethereum blocks: 342s → 118s → solana-idl-history map_idl_accounts, 1.5M Solana blocks: 846s → 384.5s
Every module decodes the block before it runs a line of its own logic: once per block per module. A chain with 10 active modules decodes every block 10 times over.
Wire format unchanged, upgrading opt-in.

Congrats @monad team on mainnet!
We've just added Substreams and Firehose endpoints to @graphprotocol's The Graph Market.
Our service will improve in phases, with BASE blocks currently available for all blocks, with EXTENDED blocks coming next.

Yesterday, The Graph released Foundational Stores for Substreams 🧱
Foundational Stores help devs scale their projects by quickly getting onchain data from data stores when streaming from the blockchain.
Here’s why devs are already calling it a game-changer for blockchain data ⤵️
Introducing: Substreams Foundational Stores ✨
Foundational Stores help developers scale their projects by fetching onchain data from preindexed stores when streaming from the blockchain. Doing this typically requires slow and costly RPC calls to redundant datasets or local data caches. It’s tedious, expensive, and slows down the fun of innovating.
Why it matters:
✅ Deterministic data access (no multiple eth_calls)
✅ Faster indexing + lower latency
✅ Major reduction in development time
Perfect for DeFi protocols, wallets, and portfolio trackers.
