The indigenously designed and built Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (500 MWe) at Kalpakkam has attained criticality, a defining milestone in the second stage of India's three-stage nuclear programme.
As the Prime Minister described it -

Built fully indigenously by 𝐁𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐈, with contributions from over 200 Indian industries. India now stands as only the second country, after Russia, to bring a commercial Fast Breeder Reactor to this stage. Aatmanirbhar Bharat, in its truest, most demanding form.

The scientists, engineers, and teams of Bhartiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd.(BHAVINI), 𝐈𝐆𝐂𝐀𝐑, and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India | परमाणु ऊर्जा विभाग built every capability that the map demanded, and walked every difficult step of that road. Today, they crossed the threshold. The nation stands with you.
