Depression isn't some unknown genetic condition like your doctor tells you.

In fact, we know the exact biological causes behind it.

Here are 10 hallmarks of depression, & what you might be able to do about each:

#1 NUTRIENT DEFICIENCIES

If your brain doesn't have the tools needed to function, how can you expect to be happy?

One of the most common nutrient deficiencies is magnesium.

Having high magnesium levels literally cut depression risk by more than half.

Magnesium reversed major depression within a week in a stunning case series.

Very reasonable (125-300 mg) doses of magnesium glycinate or taurinate had this incredible effect.

Magnesium:

◇ Acts as a calming agent
◇ Prevents brain cell death
◇ Aids in energy production

Crucial at every level.

Another common nutrient deficiency in depression is VITAMIN D.

Vitamin D completely abolishes severe depression.

#3 HIGH CORTISOL

The protein BDNF helps in brain cell growth and survival.

and is LOW in people with depression.

Most conventional antidepressants work by increasing BDNF (if they work at all).

Brain cell death in depression.

A decline in the grey matter of the brain directly predicts depressed symptoms.

#9 HIGH GLUTAMATE

Glutamate is the primary "excitatory" neurotransmitter, increasing brain activity.

This is obviously very important but high glutamate can directly contribute to the death of brain cells.

Things that reduce glutamate can have antidepressant effects.

N-Acetylcysteine cut depression by >60%, anxiety by 50% in one study.

1.2 g per day.

Excess glutamate in distinct brain regions can contribute to these feelings.

NAC's ability to lower it in the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex contributes to its antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects.

#10 IMPAIRED CEREBRAL BLOODFLOW

The cerebral cortex is the "higher thinking" brain region, associated with deep thought and consciousness.

Reduced blood flow to this region literally suffocates your brain, depleting oxygen and thus energy production.

This can also cause damage to the brain.

Red / near infrared light therapy completely reversed depression in one trial.

People applying 823 nm light (20-30 min, 2x a week for 8 weeks) saw their depression metrics drop to normal levels.

Improvement by >60%.

This type of light stimulates cerebral blood flow (among other things).

Clearly, depression is a symptom of poor overall health.
