@_LoneStarHalo_ Ichiro had a 104 wRC+. He wasn't a great hitter, just 4% above league average.
It's not my take, it's quantifiable analysis that's public information.
@MVP05Guy A career 104 wRC+ is 4% above the average major league hitter.
Terrific fielding and baserunning made up for that, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
@MVP05Guy Just because you can make contact with a pitch doesn't mean you should. When you create extra outs instead of walking, and have no power, you're entire offensive is relied on BABIP variance. His efficiency was capped and inconsistent because of that. He is a HoFer, not for offense
@MVP05Guy .305 is cool, but not when you have Ichiro syndrome, creating extra outs instead of taking walks. That archetype is barely in the league now, let alone hitting lead off.
@dead_baseball That wouldn't work due to the rudimentary state of the bWAR model.
That's like making a cup of coffee with your own fresh espresso beans, then mixing in instant folgers to top off your cup.
The volume of coffee or information doesn't help, you just ruined the quality.
@pumpkinsocks@KodyDuncanPGH This is what people are overlooking. They're efficiency won't be capped. They'll still bail on players when they have to (even when a player is popular with fans) and they'll revitalize careers. You can't stop them. ( I'm not a Dodger fan specifically, just a fan of the MLB)
@tom_grazel@Sox_Savant Sanchez and Skenes were basically worth the same last year, unless you're talking about baseball reference. Be careful with their war model, it's extremely rudimentary.
@jinbahji77@CodifyBaseball Maybe. But I'm not sure it's that simple. He did have a major shoulder surgery, and he's definitely off mechanically. Whether it's physical or mental, idk.
He's smacking everything, still hard, but into the ground. He can't find the right launch angle.
@PauliesPod@CodifyBaseball Out of 173 qualified hitters he's ranked 92nd for efficiency (106 wRC+) because of his .070 ISO (8th worst power) and 5% walk rate (25th worst)
As usual, he's fine. It's hard to be good when your value relies on positive BABIP variance, and poor discipline creates extra outs.
@DrHairyChic0@TheNCSmaster I mean, entertainment is subjective. I prefer socializing and competition. If you want to chill and choose your own storybook, cool.
(it looks like landon only plays shooters, it makes sense he could be burned out on the genre)
@Sylvest62433601@BBGreatMoments The veterans committee has not been efficient over the decades, and Baines was a classic blunder for them.
Rolen has the 10th most fWAR and the 10th best peak (jaws) for a third baseman. 70 fWAR is a slam dunk HoFer, anyone above 70 not in is banned or is connected to steroids.
@womprat48@MPatty2122@BarryOnHere This happens all the time. The other famous case is Vladimir Guerrero Jr's last few years since his original breakout.
@BickuriB0x@fernook@xwanyex It's totally cool if you prefer to watch more shot variety, that makes sense. Entertainment is subjective.
To me, efficiency is the entertainment. I'm glad we're not hucking contested mid range jumpers for no reason.
@eldonpedro@Patrick30887310@TheSeventhBrat@BBGreatMoments fWAR is the baseline of a HoF case because it is the end all be all for quantifiable value. After that, peak (jaws) or awards can certainly boost a case (i.e. Joe Mauer) If a player is in the 50s.
40 is tough, you'll have to revive Frankie Frisch to run the veterans committee.
