Last year the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) - The UK Government's system to identify and support people who may be victims of modern slavery - had a record number of referrals.
1 in 5 potential victims referred were British nationals - the largest single group.
30% of referrals were children.
The profile of exploitation in the UK is not only increasing but also rapidly changing, and our response must change with it.

Victims of human trafficking are often coerced into online scams or drug smuggling by organized crime. Over 8% of all victims are forced to commit criminal acts.
