Re-reading an article I wrote in 2015 in @AdminJournal about directly elected mayors. Worth recalling we legislated for the introduction of DEMs in 2001 but we're still not there. At least Limerick is one step closer. @CorkMayor @moranjohna1 @limerickcitybiz #mayoralplebiscite

Disappointingly, people of Cork have voted for status quo. Lord Mayor indirectly elected by cllrs with only ceremonial powers & changed each year. Looks like FF & FG can divide up mayoralty between them for 4 of next 5 years. The people have spoken. Good luck, Limerick. #MayorRef

I've had 10 years of sitting across the table from FF/FG councillors doing their best Sminky impressions 'I cant do it' with an eye roll and head nod to up the road in Dublin as the reason. Cork FF/FG are officially an impediment to effective Local Gov.
