Can’t wait to hear Dr. Peter Vitousek’s @CornellBiogeo lecture today on “Pacific Islands as model systems for understanding biogeochemistry and human-environment interactions”!
There’s nothing better than a #biogeochem Friday @Cornell 😄
One of the (many) reasons I did my PhD at Cornell - @CornellBiogeo is such a dynamic & interdisciplinary community that's rich with new & historical biogeochemistry research. I'm missing those BESS days🙂
THIS was my academic family during my PhD. Being a part of this group at Cornell was impactful on my career in so many ways. Shout out to @CornellBiogeo and all the grad students that made me feel welcome!
Biogeochemistry – an interdisciplinary field that examines the elemental cycles through Earth’s air, land and water – is critical to understanding climate change. 🌎
Learn how it found its origin at @CornellCALS more than six decades ago.

Can't wait to kick off this awesome seminar series! In person on campus or on Zoom for those who aren't in Ithaca. Hope to see some other @CornellBiogeo alumni online! #biogeochemistry
TODAY: BESS is hosting a virtual seminar with Dr. Andrew Kulmatiski from Utah State at 12:30! Not on the BESS listserv? Email [email protected] for Zoom details
TOMORROW: BESS will be hosting a virtual seminar with Dr. Katie Castagno (@kacastagno ) from the Center for Coastal Studies at 12:30 PM! Not on the BESS listserv? Email [email protected] for Zoom details.
This morning’s coffee hour with @CornellBiogeo will feature a discussion of the documentary “Kiss the Ground”. We’ll be talking about #soilcarbon, #regenerativeAg and #scicomm. My household had a **heated** conversation after watching last night. Should be a fun topic!
TOMORROW: BESS will be hosting a virtual seminar with Dr. Elizabeth Bach from the Nature Conservancy at 12:30 PM! Not on the BESS listserv? Direct message our account or email [email protected] for Zoom details
Glad to see some points in this article that also came up in our recent @CornellBiogeo group discussion on the concerns of overselling regenerative ag. We have to kick our fossil fuel habit. Can't sidestep it.
Paper Accepted in AEM! #Paraburkholderia#exometabolomics
Takeaways:
1 - Co-utilization of substrates in groups
2 - NOSC not a useful predictor of uptake preference
3 - Compounds that had higher umax as sole C source were not used first

It's day two of the @CornellBiogeo fall retreat! We started off this morning with an informative discussion of the excellent paper on Field Safety for At-Risk Individuals by @MoniquePipkin and @acdemery. We came up with some good ideas to implement across @CornellCALS!
That's a wrap on our virtual fall workshop! Thanks to all the attendees, and especially big thanks to @XiangtaoX for leading us through the world of biogeochemical modeling!
The winners of our Fall workshop collaborative project contest are @Astroeco_Morgan@CJWattenburger and twitterless Itamar from @JLehmannCornell for their project: microbes in space! Free BESS bandannas coming their way!
