@ElliottSaysWhat Bingo! Exactly the point. What’s wrong with providing student athletes an option when in fact they are paying for school. It provides flexibility in academic choices- add minor, concentrations, double major. Hmm sounds good for the student athlete.
@NILnotNLI I’ve been in D3 for three decades and couldn’t disagree more- D3 has taken away opportunity for student athletes - lessen non traditional, lessen competitions, lessen championship experience- shorter tourneys. It’s time the largest Division is on same level- 5 years
@NILnotNLI Couldn’t disagree more. Divisions aside it’s about fairness and setting an eligibility standard at all levels consistent with one another - compliance officers would agree ! Not about changing academic standards, integrity- they have that at D1/2. D3 doesn’t own the market.
@BQuillmanQcast@iamconnorprintz This is not state school vs private schools, it’s not masters vs non masters, it’s not making kids spend more money. It’s an option provided to the student athlete to make his or her own decision on pace of degree and athletic experience they desire. Just like d1/2
@funkyhockey11 Correct, the student athletes support this. Provide them with an option, that’s all this is. Not about schools w masters degrees etc. it’s about fairness amongst levels and every compliance officer in America would desire this!
Well said coach. This was all created when D1 and D2 smartly made intelligent decisions- no more waivers you got 5 years . Eliminate law suits, guess what happens if D3 doesn’t pass 5/5? Lawsuits and my bet is students win.
@Don_K_Williams@BQuillmanQcast What about the players at the low/mid major level that want to play their 5th year at a D3 to have a chance to actually compete? Why should a D3 player have the opportunity to move up for a 5th year, but a D1/D2 player cannot transfer down for their 5th year?
@travis_john78@davemchugh@BQuillmanQcast Ok, it’s not about graduate school- it’s about options . Maybe it’s a double major, maybe it’s a minor or concentration, maybe you simply take more time w original degree and not have to take summer or winter classes. Folks- it’s an OPTION. D1 and D2 kids have the option
@NCAA_PR A joke. Complete hypocrisy- what is in the best interest of a student athlete? Heard that for 35 years and then students have a ray of hope- it’s an option, not a mandate . Listen to the student athletes one time. It would be so beneficial for compliance !
Absolutely disagree. If what has been preached in D3 for over 35 years I’ve been involved- “what’s in the best interest of the student athlete.” Then provide the student athletes with an option- it’s not a mandate , it’s an option. Some take it slower to obtain degrees!
I don't know if the D1/D2 age-based eligibility model ("5 in 5") is right or wrong for D3.
But I agree with everything Stephanie (@UEC_Commish) says here.
Division III is different for a reason...a great reason. Just because Division I and II went to the new model is not a good enough reason to adopt it. Moving to it has to be because it complements and furthers the core philosophy of Division III.
“We really want to hang on to what Division III is and stay true to this experience." Agree 100%
