We organizers from CEU and UniVie all learned a great deal and tremendously enjoyed all the conversations we had! Thanks to @medstudCEU, @dshcs_univie and the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek studies @univienna! 3/3.
🙏 We just want thank everyone who took part in our graduate conference "Translating Byzantium and Byzantium Translating" (2-3 June, 2023) and joined us from Armenia, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania and the US, as well as Vienna. 1/3.
We aimed at bringing together graduate students working with different language traditions (e.g., Armenian, Greek, Syriac) to learn from each other and gain a fuller picture of Byzantium and its neighbors. 2/3.
Yesterday, the Ancient, Byzantine and Medieval cluster of the @dshcs_univie hosted our first PhD symposium of the year. Two fantastic talks by Larisa Ficulle and @Fall_of_Zeynep, followed by some lively questions and discussion. Thanks to our speakers and all those who attended!
📢 Friday, April 14, 4:00pm, I will give an online talk (in Italian) about praise speeches, public acclamations and, more importantly, what Libanius chooses (not) to tell us about them!
Join us (@dshcs_univie and @medstudCEU@ceu_cems) for our third Reading Session this academic year, namely on emotions in Byzantium!

Mancava da un po' una @scuolanormale disposta (tutta quanta) a una semplice presa di posizione. In attesa della manifestazione di sabato 4 a Firenze, almeno arriva questo testo doveroso - con molte firme.
📢 If you're in Vienna, join us this Friday for the 2nd internal Graduate Workshop in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies, jointly organized by MA and PhD students at @dshcs_univie and @medstudCEU! Program here, all welcome 👇👇 1/2
My favorite line from our CfP: "How has the dominance of classical Greek in the curricula of ‘Western’ universities or the equation of Byzantium with Greek Orthodoxy impacted the way Byzantine history is told and conceptualised?" 2/2
📢 Share and apply! 📢
We will explore translation proper and multilingualism, the mobility of objects and ideas, as well as how academic curricula centered on Greek have shaped our image of Byzantium! Come to Vienna, June 2-3! 😀 1/2

Pleased to share the call for papers for ‘Translating Byzantium and Byzantium Translating’, co-hosted by @dshcs_univie and @ceu. The conference will take place in sunny (🤞🏼) Vienna, June 2-3. Please share! We look forward to receiving your submissions 🎉
We are an international community of #PhDs@univienna & some of our fellows are from Turkey or Syria. We reached out to all of them, to make sure that they are safe, & to ask them whether they need support. Most of them are ok considering these dreadful circumstances 🧵(1/9)
