We improved the SH0ES measurement of the local Hubble constant by including the spectroscopic similarity of SNe Ia in the uncertainty/scatter modeling analysis. The updated value is H0 = 73.29±0.90 km/s/Mpc. This is 5.7σ from Planck 2018!

https://t.co/Gq7l8Atr0c Paper day! We directly measured the ISM dust extinction law for a galaxy at ~20Mpc away. This galaxy, NGC 5584, is one of the SN Ia and Cepheid hosts used to calibrate SNe in the Hubble diagram. Why do we care about dust? A quick summary:
We are continuing to repeat this measurement on several other SH0ES galaxies to provide a statistical view. More to come! (img: the background galaxies used for this study)
A fourth anchor for H0! 🤯 Great work by Louise Breuval, with data in paper, of new H0 Cepheid cross check (74.1±2.1). And yeah, I’m aware of a recent CCHP talk, my suggestion is to wait until there is a paper with data out. With the number of published cross checks (e.g specifically JWST versus HST) and now Louise’s, need to break something badly to get a lower local H0. https://t.co/vzDJ0vbLLa

SH0ES has had many data releases and papers to wade through in 20 years. There is a preprint (https://t.co/hD9H6UkeMJ) which claims a discrepancy between the 2016 and 2022 releases; we anticipated this in 2022. If something is confusing, please ask us! 🧵
