@space_stations@hankgreen@EddGorenstein Sorry but you don’t get what you’re arguing against. (Nearly) no one thinks you should pay tax on unsold assets. Many think money made from selling an asset should taxed at the same rate as normal income.
In your example, you would owe no tax unless you sold and profited.
@mattlindn@hankgreen@EddGorenstein A lot of people in these comments revealing that they don’t understand the position. Paper gains are not taxed — the argument is to apply income tax rates to realized capital gains. Nothing owed for holding.
@Key2Const_@BTKeener@kewhittington Where do you find that “temporary” isn’t adequate? Even someone present without authorization has a duty of obedience to our laws while here.
If someone’s freedom can be abridged by the State, are they not subject to its jurisdiction?
We've been running an unprecedented natural experiment running for a decade and half. 30 states have raised their minimum wages. 20 have not.
What happened to pay? What happened to jobs? The good news is that it's pretty easy to figure out now.

@og89558@kyledcheney The administration does not care if he lives or dies, it only hopes he’ll serve as a warning to others bold enough to invoke their constitutional rights.
Judge Bates: "To adopt the government’s position that the [Presidential Records] Act is unconstitutional would disable Congress and future Presidents from reflecting on experience, in defiance of the very words engraved on the National Archives Building in Washington: 'What is past is prologue.'"
Let's be clear about what happened here: Trump went through this whole charade just so he could get a $1.8 billion, taxpayer-funded slush fund to dole out to his lawbreaking friends, potentially including January 6th insurrectionists.
Corruption plain and simple.
@RepBeccaB The money is coming from the Judgement Fund, and that money comes with strings. Transferring money from the Judgement Fund to the slush fund should draw civil & criminal liability. This blatant plundering must be stopped.
Breaking News: The Justice Dept. announced a $1.8 billion fund to pay President Trump’s allies as part of its settlement with the IRS. Follow live updates. https://t.co/BOXrURoGg7
@TheJusticeDept Insane how unconstitutional this is. Where is the congressional appropriation for the fund? What class certification specifies who qualifies as a claimant? How can the fund administrators legally draw travel expenses and per diem from the fund?
I took 1.7 million photos over 6 days to catch this photo of a commercial jet in front of the sun.
The moment it happened, TWO floating prominences were visible, making this not just my best aircraft transit photo, but one of the luckiest of my career! Videos of the transit 👇
