🇺🇸 TRUMP LIFTS SANCTIONS ON SYRIA — BUT AT WHAT COST?

Trump just announced he’s lifting all U.S. sanctions on Syria—clearing the way for a regime once tied to al Qaeda to rejoin global finance and diplomacy.

His reasoning? A “chance at greatness,” and a few quiet chats with Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

But Syria’s new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, was literally on the U.S. terrorist bounty list until last December. He used to lead al Qaeda’s branch in Syria.

Lifting sanctions now means legitimizing a man who oversaw brutal civil war tactics and mass civilian deaths—without demanding justice or reforms in return.

The UN applauds it for “reconstruction.” But the cost could be whitewashing war crimes and empowering a regime that’s anything but stable.

“Historic peace deal”? Or rewriting history?
