Hi :) I talk excitedly about numbers & maps on YouTube - IMO is always implied. I care more than most about what words mean, read as: I am very pedantic. He/Him
@aryafpl@LeoMars75@ShayWoulahan In that case councils can count the value of the house in your assets when calculating care payment stuff, and HMRC can consider it part of your estate when you die.
A good rule of thumb is if you think "this is so easy how didn't they think if this" they usually did.
@aryafpl@LeoMars75@ShayWoulahan If you give your house away this is true - but if you "give your house away" and then continue to live in it as before without paying rent then HMRC knows you haven't actually given it away.
They call this a gift with reservation of benefit (you reserved the right to live there)
@ynwa_matt@LeoMars75@ShayWoulahan You mean they could pretend it was their principle residence while it's not?
True I guess, but again: crime isn't a loophole.
@jfwduffield@MattBrookes3 Bad news, today seems to be the day you learn about this thing called the Gulf War.
We deployed more troops at once than in Iraq. Worth a read about.
@LeoMars75@ShayWoulahan Having thought about this a bit more, did you move in with your 55 year old parents?
If not you will owe CGT on the house for value gained while you aren't living there.
Your fraud based "loophole" gets worse the more I think about it
@LeoMars75@ShayWoulahan Are they still living in their house? Are they paying you a fair market rent and you paying tax on that rent?
If no they this doesn't remove it from their estate - and it's not a loophole, it's just a gift with reservation of benefit.
@GraphCrimes Embarrassing take
Please tell me more about how to get vastly more people in jail using plea bargaining blackmail and baseball grounded sentencing
Stick to graphs on this one - here's one for you
@LiteralyLily@GraphCrimes IMO "I am" is an identity relationship. I am X if and only if I = X.
I can't "=" something I "kinda" am, any difference breaks an "="
1 doesn't "kinda" equal 1.0000001
@IronTowerStudio@carter_ae@warlockracy This is a little over dramatic perhaps - but AoD is a incredible game and this is true:
Watching an AoD let's play got me into the game, and later making great friends with that letsplayer, which then got them into a job.
Not just a great game, great personal impact :)
@Footinit@fesshole A needed lexical shift emerges
(hope this doesn't seem rude, just seemed really funny to me to consider less formal language feminine)
@KnowingBetterYT@sydneypersing@wfaa "Man beaten to death after suffering from a stroke while driving"
4 people are in custody today after murdering a man who had the audacity to happen to be driving while having a stroke. Police remind people that murder is wrong, and that if a group of you hit someone they may die
@OzKaterji I think we could properly compromise on calling anyone that falls for such a scam "serious threat to public security if given the chance to be"
I do agree that for such a role you can be expected to be vigilant, just don't like use of dumb
Keep up the great work generally btw ๐
@OzKaterji There are quite a few smart, lonely people out there who had stuff like this ruin their lives (personal finance subs see them quite a bit, dealing with debt etc)
I don't think it's fair to dismiss them all as dumb and unfit for office
@OzKaterji To be clear, yes you are clearly right - this nude phishing scam clearly was pretty obvious, and falling for it's dumb
I'm saying I don't think you can generalize from this to all such scams, some are complex and require vigilance (or happy marrage) not just lack of being dumb
