-On April 29, 2026, United Airlines Flight 1980, a flight from San Francisco to San Diego, reported a possible mid-air collision with a "small" and "red" drone while on approach to San Diego International Airport. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. PST at an altitude of approximately 3,000 to 4,000 feet.
-No Damage: Despite the report, a post-flight inspection of the Boeing 737 found no damage, and the flight landed safely with 48 passengers and 6 crew members on board.
-Investigation: The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and FBI San Diego are investigating the incident, which occurred in restricted airspace where drone operation above 400 feet is prohibited.
-No Other Reports: Air traffic control alerted other nearby pilots, but no additional drone sightings were reported that morning.
-The aircraft involved continued service later that day, operating flights from San Diego to Houston and then to Austin.
