Some super cool work from @Coutinho_JD , @GunnarBlohm @doug_munoz, Philippe Lefèvre and Jeff Huang! Never considered a potential main-sequence-like dynamic relationship for pupil responses before. Neat model.

This is per year, so over a 4-year PhD (considered normal residency): a student in 2022 will be $38,744 more in debt than back in 2002. These numbers are only for in-province tuition - for out-of-province and international, numbers much higher.
A PhD student in 2022 with a Tricouncil award receives $21,000. The cost of living at the poverty line in Montreal that year is $27,948. Adding in-province tuition ($6864) means a total of $34,812 = student $13,812 in debt.
#ISupportGradStudents - #Budget2023 means that Canadian graduate students will be more in debt than ever before. Let's compare a student from 2012-13 academic year, to 2022-23:

Fellow academics: what did you do in your PhD program to make money to pay bills since programs don’t pay a livable wage? @AcademicChatter#AcademicTwitter
@thekatestewart@AcademicChatter Did my PhD in Denmark 🇩🇰. PhDs here are treated as employees and salaried on the basis of collective agreement btw the state and unions, with a monthly income at 4000-5000 USD before tax.
I’m asking everyone in Ontario to demand better. The provincial budget will be delivered in a couple of months & the Ford govt can end legislative poverty by doubling social assistance rates. I will push at QP, but we also need people to speak out. #onpoli https://t.co/cINGxXvLSQ
Toronto Mayor Tory can use his extraordinary power to provide shelter to the under-housed during the cold season.
Providing shelter saves money in the healthcare sector and far more importantly, it saves lives.

ICYMI: A City of Toronto budget battle is brewing as physicians, advocates for the homeless and others urge the city to open warming centres 24-7 https://t.co/u3hTF28xaG via @torontostar
This is REALLY interesting — imagine if every decision-maker in YOUR city, elected or appointed, was required to experience just a small taste of what it’s like to be a bike-rider on badly designed, unsafe (aka typical) roads?

Every year it's the same: Freezing temps. Winter storm alerts. Headlines saying unhoused people are at risk. Us advocates fighting for Toronto's warming centres to open.
Can we please just skip the routine? Open the warming centres every winter. AND GIVE UNHOUSED PEOPLE HOUSING!
In one of the richest cities in the world, we are going into this winter where people will freeze to death. Where hundreds will come to our emergency departments with cold related injuries. Beyond warming centres, we need housing for all ASAP.
It doesn't matter if transit stations are official "warming stations" or not. People will go there for warmth. How hard is it to *not* actively make things worse for people who are already suffering through a dangerous cold snap? Yikes. #yyccc https://t.co/gCPm0GkCX4
