Watching this complex of thunderstorms in Ohio this morning, currently sitting in a modestly unstable, but fairly supportive upper-level environment for MCS maintenance and intensification.
Depending on the degree of instability ahead of this complex, a long-lived and severe MCS may materialize this morning and this afternoon across parts of Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
A robust severe weather event may take place on Wed, June 10, across parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest.
All severe hazards are possible, with some significant severe weather not being ruled out.
An elongated, and potent upper trough will progress over the region, favoring robust surface and low-level cyclogenesis, and a strong low-level response, producing a setup favorable for scattered-widespread severe weather.
The SPC has mentioned a potential upgrade to 30% severe probabilities in future outlooks.
Oh lord, the humidity is coming back. Dew points are on the rise today and they'll continue to increase. This will eventually result in some showers this weekend! - George
On this day in 2024, a strong tornado impacted the Eldersburg, Maryland area. The tornado was initially rated high-end EF1 with estimated winds of 110 mph. A year later, while reviewing the damage out of curiosity, I contacted the NWS about some of the tree damage, which appeared more consistent with EF2 intensity. They conducted a reanalysis of the event and, a week later, upgraded the tornado to low-end EF2 with estimated winds of 120 mph.

Multiple Iranian ballistic missiles struck the U.S. Air Force’s Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, in the early weeks of the Iran War, severely damaging the facility which ran America’s air campaigns in the Middle East for over two decades and rendering it inoperable, a senior U.S. official and other people informed about the attack told Air & Space Forces Magazine. No personnel were injured in the attack as it was not in use at the time, with the air campaign against Iran being directed from a facility at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.
There is a Slight Risk of severe storms across parts of the Plains and Midwest today.
Damaging winds and large hail are the primary hazards, but a couple of tornadoes will be possible, particularly with any cells that can develop within the more volatile environment in NE/IA late this afternoon.
Storms may grow upscale into an MCS late in the afternoon into the evening hours, potentially producing a swath of 70-75mph wind gusts.
