ROAD MAINTENANCE UPDATE (August 5):
Road striping operations will be finishing roads in the Oak Point area today before shifting to the Port of Kalama and the Mt Pleasant and Kool Road area. The striping contractor will return to Cowlitz County roads the week of August 16.

ROAD MAINTENANCE UPDATE (August 4): Road striping operations are scheduled to be in the Stella Road to Oak Point area and in the industrial area today. On Thursday, they are scheduled to be striping roads in the Mt Pleasant and Kool Road area as well as the Port of Kalama.

ROAD MAINTENANCE UPDATE (July 29): Road striping operations are scheduled to be in the Woodside / Coal Creek / Lone Oak / Sunset / Pacific Way areas today plus County roads in west Longview. Friday - Sunday they will be striping roads rural Wahkiakum, Puget Island and Cathlamet.

ROAD MAINTENANCE UPDATE (July 28): Road striping operations are scheduled to be in the Delameter / Woodside, Cook Ferry, Beacon Hill and Olson Road / Nevada Road areas today. Thursday’s schedule shifts to Columbia Heights / Lone Oak / Sunset / Pacific Way and west Longview.

ROAD MAINTENANCE UPDATE (July 26):
Today, paint striping operations are scheduled to be in the Toutle / Silver Lake area before moving to West Side Hwy north of Castle Rock and then Ryderwood. On Tuesday, they will be striping roads west of Castle Rock.

For Thursday, July 22, road striping operations will be on County roads near the east and north sides of the City of Kelso while the chip seal crew will be working a few roads in the Delameter Valley (Monahan, Garlock & Oller).

Today (July 21), our road striping contractor will be working on Old 99 / Rose Valley Road and side roads in that area, including North Maple Hill Road, Bodine Road, North Bodine Road, Goble Creek Loop, Mahaffey Road, Wagner Road, Zillig Road, Norwood Drive and Pare Road.

After striping roads in the Green Mtn / Shirley Gordon / South Cloverdale area today, operations are scheduled to move to rural roads around the town of Kalama on Tuesday. Then on to roads south and east of Kelso on Wednesday & Thursday.

Drivers may encounter slow moving paint striping trucks beginning Saturday in southern portions of the County. Per WAC 308-330-412, it is unlawful to drive across freshly applied markings. Road paint generally dries within five minutes.

Traffic crossing the South Toutle Bridge is now restricted to alternating traffic using a single lane across the center of the bridge. Bridge capacity has been determined to be adequate for legal loads provided traffic is limited to a single vehicle at a time.

The 2021 Cowlitz County road striping program that was scheduled to begin in the Woodland area on Wednesday, July 7 is on hold. The striping contractor has notified us that they are currently unable to obtain the specialized yellow road paint.

Load limitations and a reduced speed limit have been imposed for the South Toutle Road Bridge due to a failure of the anchor bolts. Truck traffic is restricted to 10 tons. The speed limit has been reduced to 25 MPH.

ROAD DELAYS FOR PAVING - TOWER ROAD
Lakeside Industries, under contract with Cowlitz County, is scheduled to pave multiple sections of Tower Road on Thursday, Friday and Monday. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM in the active work zones.

An overnight closure of the southbound exit and on-ramp at I-5 Exit 32 (Kalama River Road) is scheduled for TONIGHT (Thursday) for a grinding & paving project on West Kalama River Road. The closure will begin at 9:00 PM and will be end by 5:00 AM. A detour route is available.

Columbia River Contractors will be repairing damaged guardrail throughout Cowlitz County for approximately 30 days. A specific schedule is unavailable. However, they are beginning in the rural Kalama / Kelso area – Kalama River Road yesterday and Rose Valley Road today.

Tree falling operations near the road on West Side Highway between Crooked Creek Road and Casey Road (7300 block) have paused. They are scheduled to resume Monday morning, May 3rd and should be completed that afternoon. Delays of up to 20 minutes during tree falling are expected.

County road crews are providing traffic control from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday this week on West Side Highway between Crooked Creek Road and Casey Road (7300 block) for tree removal and brush cleanup. Delays of up to 20 minutes are expected.
