We are supporters of @JohnCampaign and #GloriasLaw which shares similar goals to our Complex Care in Hospital campaign. Along with @ILG_Community we want to make sure those of us with PAs are part of any review of regulation or legislation change.
PAs and carers are insured to work in whatever environment their employer is. There should be a way for personal care to continue in hospital alongside medical care. Mutual agreement about who does what (what each is trained to do).
With the best intentions and will, nursing staff do not have the time or resources to provide the level of care people with complex care needs require. They are overstretched and do not have the training and experience of assisting these patients.
The care in hospital is not being paid for twice. You cannot compare. A regular PA/caregiver is skilled in understanding an employer’s needs & anticipating/ preventing secondary issues. This applies to moving & handling, positioning, ventilation & communication + many more areas
We know of 2 recent situations where carers/PAs have not been allowed to assist with care needs in hospital settings. Other hospitals welcome care staff with open arms recognising that they are skilled in supporting a particular individual. We need #consistencyofcare!
We don’t want to hear of situations where people are put off from addressing health issues for fear they’ll be without their regular caregivers whilst receiving treatment. It’s possible for all to work together for the best outcome - let’s find the solution! @Pers_Care@ASCAPPG
