social networks in dementia care are important for wellbeing and stimulation. Inclusive, creative community activities support many families living with dementia #AlzChat
Some individuals write notes about what they want to share; and more importantly about how they wish to be treated by their family / friends. The diagnosis may come as a shock, or a relief. It's important to be clear about what would help induce a supportive response. #AlzChat
@AlzJoyThruTears so true! There is a wisdom and connection that many people miss because they are busy counting the mistakes or lost words or symptoms. 😘 #AlzChat
A group poem by ppl living with dementia: 'Poetry In Motion' book.
You would need thermal underwear
Get the log house insulated
Find plenty of logs to burn
Have a kettle on a long chain
Boiling in the old hearth fire
Fetch oil lamps and big white candles
Make it ...cosy #AlzChat
Poetry In Motion grew out of Creativity in Care’s 2014 project ‘Old Possums’ working with people of all ages, including ppl living with dementia who wrote fabulous poems of the moment, or a memory, plus group poems. #AlzChat
Good to be here at #AlzChat ... joining in as and when possible... we're changing hands here at @CreativityCare after over a decade. Still doing socially engaged arts / community arts. Great topic today: 'Theatre, poetry and storytelling in dementia care' @IRememberBetter
Saw a post earlier... about the power of music and hymns to reignite something in a person that may at times seem lost... and that stirs the soul in other people too. #Connection#AlzChat
Many of our socially engaged projects are intergenerational. This one took place in #Cromarty where intergenerational projects are regularly supported. Arts, gardening, cooking, computer courses, and board games are some of the many ways to connect the generations. #AlzChat
Nice to be here at #AlzChat Topic Today: Intergenerational activities in dementia care & helping children understand dementia @IRememberBetter@KarrieMarshall Mon 3pmEST/8pmUK
