One unusual thing in finance vs tech is once you get rejected once, many firms won't accept an application ever again.

I failed a DE Shaw in-person interview 15 years ago and they've rejected my resume every time since then.

@C_hoffmanni similar phenomenon in China called 撸小贷（lit: gooning micro loan) where folks would rack up huge amount of internet micro loan and play dead when debt collector shows up. There’s even cases where entire village gang up and simply beat collectors’ ass when they show up.
